What is an anti-static film?
Antistatic films are polyethylene films that achieve controlled surface conductivity through special additives or coatings. This prevents the film surface from becoming statically charged and protects sensitive contents – especially electronic components – from damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
02
Areas of application
Anti-static films are used wherever electrically sensitive goods are packaged, stored or transported. Typical applications include the semiconductor industry, the packaging of printed circuit boards, sensors and measuring instruments, as well as the pharmaceutical sector, where powdered active substances must be protected from static build-up.
03
Manufacturing & Standards
The antistatic effect is achieved either by incorporating additives into the polyethylene melt during blown film extrusion or by subsequent surface coating. Relevant standards include DIN EN 61340 (electrostatics) as well as industry-specific requirements such as ANSI/ESD S541 for packaging.
