What printing methods are there for films?
Printing processes for plastic films include various techniques used to apply information, logos, markings and designs to film surfaces. The choice of process depends on the print run, the type of film, the required print quality and the regulatory requirements of the respective industry.

Areas of application
Printed films are used for product labelling of liners and pouches, for brand communication on packaging, and for batch labelling in the pharmaceutical industry. In regulated sectors such as pharmaceuticals and food in particular, the printing inks used must be food-compliant or suitable for pharmaceutical use and must not migrate into the contents.

Process & Quality
Common printing processes for PE films include flexographic printing, gravure printing and digital printing. Flexographic printing is particularly suitable for medium to high print runs and offers good colour fidelity at moderate cost. Before printing, surface pretreatment by corona treatment is usually required to ensure the ink adheres to the non-polar PE surface.
