01
Definition and distinction from MUT
In process and filling technology, a distinction is made between Single-Use Technology (SUT) and Multi-Use Technology (MUT). SUT are technologies that are disposed of after a single use, such as containment packaging materials. MUT, such as stainless steel containers, are used multiple times through elaborate cleaning processes.
02
Environmental impact of SUT
Despite their single use and the widespread image of plastic as harmful to the environment, the containment solutions offered by Rhein-Plast are significantly more environmentally friendly than stainless steel containers in various environmental categories, as a life cycle study of the two technologies shows. This is especially true for global warming potential (-35%), eutrophication (-93%) and water footprint (-95.5%).
03
Advantages in practice
SUT enables faster product changeovers, as time-consuming CIP processes are eliminated. For CDMOs and operations with frequently changing active substances, this is a decisive economic advantage. Rhein-Plast offers SUT solutions for all OEB classes 2–5, fully validatable and GMP-compliant.
